SUBJECT: Yatton developments 14/P/2017/O, 15/P/0946/O, and 15/P/1488/O

Dear Councillor,

At the P & R Committee tomorrow you will make decisions which will have a profound impact on the future of Yatton as a village.

Together, the Hallam and Bloor applications would add an additional 370 new houses to the 150-home development currently in construction, which you will have seen during last week’s site visit.

The Committee Reports you will have read make light of the objections of Yatton Parish Council, PACT, and hundreds of Yatton residents. It is residents who on a daily basis have to put up with the traffic congestion and an already hazardous High Street, overcrowded schools, and long waiting lists for doctors’ appointments. The approval of more homes on this huge scale will only make this worse.

We understand the pressures that the imposed housing numbers have put on Councillors and officers of North Somerset Council, but you still have a responsibility to the residents of North Somerset to consider ALL housing applications on their individual merits and truly take into account ‘sustainability’, ‘ highways impact’ and ’environmental issues’. Once are green fields are lost, there will be no going back; the area we recognise as home will never be the same.

The lack of infrastructure in Yatton, which has not been significantly improved in three decades, means that development on the scale proposed is unsustainable.

To those of you who do not live in Yatton – please, we ask that you remember those of us that do. We ask that you do not approve the applications on Wednesday.

Signed
